Congratulations to Pam Gagnier!

Pam has been involved with AQG in several positions, including stepping up to assist when a position was vacant.  She helps at the quilt show, makes sure her chapter gets AQG information in a timely manner, and is dedicated to chapter as well as our community service projects. When our own chapter seemed doomed a year ago. Pam took the Chair position for a second time in three years.  Her perseverance, friendliness, and dedication to quilters in the Cactus Patchers Chapter has paid off with new and returning members.  It’s a fun place to share the love of quilting!  All of this has been done while Pam has so much going on with family, including extended trips to take care of family business, that it’s a wonder she can get any quilting done at all. Regardless of personal commitments, Pam has always been able to support Cactus Patchers and AQG with a great attitude and a smile on her face.

Congratulations to Barbara Spitalny!

Barbara is an active member in Delightful Quilters and Night Owls.  She has held many positions such as Chapter Chair, program chair, education chair and co-creating the August retreat for the past three years. During her time as program chair she continuously searched for outstanding and meaningful programming. She empowers talented members to present trunk shows and also taught tips of the month to the members.

As education chair Barbara arranged for the members to have many opportunities to learn from National Teachers. She enlisted the skills of other AQG members to teach and speak at chapter meetings. As Chapter Chair her leadership talents and quilting enthusiasm resulted in a growth in membership. Barbara spent many hours dedicated to planning meaningful meetings that promoted charity quilting, sew days, and a love of quilting to over 80+ members.

Penny L says that Barbara’s effects has been like a pebble thrown into a pond.

This year we honor two members with the AQG Member of the Year Award: Joann Lang & Lynn Kough

2013moty_jlNominee Joann Lang’s middle name should be the Energizer Bunny.   With her energy she has helped so many underprivileged with her giving heart.  She has been a member of AQG for nine years during that time she organized the making of 300 pin cushion party favors for the Fall 2012 AQG meeting. She assisted with the educational programs for the 2012 AQG Quilt show.  15 different presentations were provided during the 3 day show.  She organized the Sit and Sew for the 2013 AQG show and far exceeded the expected charity projects that were made.

For the Night Owls, Joann has organized giving about 300 Christmas stockings to children at the Devereaux Center.  Through her leadership she has helped the Night Owls give many quilts to organizations such as Hospice and Rocky Point Lutheran Mission. She has worked very hard for our serviceman and has single handed stocked The Airman’s Attic at Luke Air force base. Where needed service families can get furniture, home supplies, clothing and quilts. She has also taken over 50 patriotic and other quilts to Luke AFB Family readiness Center. She has sent 25+ boxes of knitted and crocheted hats to in Iraq and Afghanistan that the Night Owls made.
